Gene comes to Wesley Church after 30 years in ministry in Texas cities in the Dallas area and the Panhandle. He has served in rural communities of fewer than 800 people and in urban settings of East Dallas. Gene has worked in leadership positions for missions, for church building and locations, and as district statistician. He enjoys reading, writing, playing golf, designing web pages, playing with computers, photography, blogging, teaching, and of course preaching.
Gene is married to Debbie, who is nurse working in the field of law. Debbie enjoys interior design and sky diving. They have three grown children: Haley, who lives in Houston, works for the Hilton Corporation, and is married to Cyril; Jenny, who lives in Fort Worth, is married to Justin, and works at Texas Christian University; and Michelle, who is married to Aaren, lives in Houston, and teaches in a commercial college.
Jeff’s ministry with Students and Community ministries began when he was himself a student and has covered over 14 years. Raised in this area, his first full-time church work was in Quinlan followed by a short stint in Irving. He has been at Wesley since 2007. Jeff’s loves are working with youth, living by the example of giving back to the community, and anything associated with big bodies of water, especially fishing, and the latest techno gadget. He is married to Leslie, who is a Braille editor and they have a son, Payton.
Jenifer came to Wesley in April, 2004 as Financial Secretary/Office Manager. She grew up in Bend, Oregon. Jenifer met and married John, who was in the Marine Corp and stationed in Yuma, Arizona. She worked for Gila Mountain United Methodist Church and Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma for almost five years in the capacity of Administrative Assistant/Financial Secretary.
Jenifer is one of the longest tenured staff members at Wesley. She is the go-to person on any weekday and the one to whom you are most likely to speak when reserving rooms in the facility, putting dates on the calendar, requesting vans, asking questions related to administration, finding a date for weddings, or finding out how to get in touch with other staff members. Jenifer also oversees the ministry of caring for those who come to the church needing assistance.
Jordan, who is the new member on our staff, was born and raised in Paris, TX. After high school He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where he met his wife Rebecca. After graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred Music Jordan moved to Longview, TX where he was Director of Youth Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Hallsville for two years.
In August of 2007 Jordan began his career in education as a choir director in Gilmer, TX. In August of 2011 Jordan and his wife moved to Greenville, where he is currently employed as the High School Choir Director. They are excited to be a part of the Wesley family!
Jordan and Rebecca enjoy traveling in their spare time, and are currently in the process of becoming foster/adoptive parents.
Leslie and her family have been members of the Wesley church family since 1989. She has always been involved in the children’s activities, teaching Sunday school, directing Vacation Bible School, leading the children’s sermon, assisting with children’s choirs, and going to church camp. Leslie taught preschool before joining the Wesley staff in as Minister to Children. She has a heart for children and loves being around them, working with them, and watching them grow. Her vision at Wesley is to reach out to the children providing opportunities for them to experience the love of Jesus and become a follower of Him. She is married to Doyle, and they have one daughter, Lexie.
Amy was born in Dallas and later moved to Winnsboro where she graduated high school. She attended Tyler Junior College and graduated from Texas A&M - Commerce with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education & a specialization in reading. She taught 1st grade for three years before becoming the director of our preschool and Parents Day Out program. Amy is married to Lance, who is employed with L-3 Communications. They have one daughter, Olivia. At Wesley they have discovered a loving church family that is continually encouraging their spiritual growth through the grace of Jesus Christ.
Amy’s philosophy is to create a Christian environment that will encourage and stimulate loving educational experiences. Amy feels that these experiences will build a foundation for each child’s growth in Christ and help them as they build relationships with others. You can share in such experiences by enrolling your child in our KinderConnections Pre-school or our Parent’s Day Out Programs.
Larissa ter Veer, Communication Director
Larissa came to Wesley Church as our Communications Director in April 2013. She brings her creative talents to spread the happenings and news of Wesley Church to our members, visitors, and community. A “Hoosier” by birth, Larissa graduated from Ball State University and has a Masters degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She and her husband, Dirk, moved to Texas from Idaho in 2008. For nine years, she was the Marketing and Air Services Development Coordinator for Boise Airport. She currently is the Director of Innovation Strategies and Special Projects for the College of Education and Human Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She and Dirk are happy to call Wesley Church “home”.
Donna was raised in Denton, Texas, and is a graduate of the University of North Texas. She also holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech School of Law. Donna has been an adjunct professor, municipal judge, and staff counsel for Texas Instruments before joining the ministry staff at Wesley. Donna is married to Dan, and they have three daughters. Kristen is a graduate from McMurry University, Katie is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, and Sarah is a sophomore at Trinity University.
Ministry with the older adults is for Donna a source of growth in her own faith journey, and she has a deep appreciation for the valuable contributions older adults make to the church. Join her in the wonderful opportunity for ministry, fellowship, travel, physical fitness and service that is at Wesley.
Chris has been a church musician for over 40 years, since he was 12 years old. Chris grew up in Hobbs, NM, but has lived in the Dallas area since 1980. He has served as Wesley’s organist since 2003. Chris holds a full-time job as a senior software engineer and enjoys his family’s small ranch in his spare time. Chris and his wife, Susan, have two college aged-daughters, Erin and Catherine.
Laura Maxwell, Pianist
Laura Maxwell has played extensively in the North Texas area for the last 30 years, accompanying the Texas Boy’s Choir, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra chorus, the Dallas Community Colleges and various vocal and instrumental settings at SMU, UNT, TCU, UTA and TAMU-Commerce, where she is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Piano Performance. She maintains a private piano studio in Greenville and is the mother of three sons – Aaron, David, and Sean.
